What Rhymes With Brick?

My literacy-lovin’, language-learning kindergartener

Sydney, 5, was finishing up her bath for the evening. I was in the bathroom with her.

“What rhymes with brick?” she asked.

Uh…

YES, dear readers. My mind went ONE PLACE.

Uh…

“Come on,” Sydney urged.

“Chick!” I exclaimed.

“Nooooooo,” said Sydney. “There’s one more I’m thinking of.”

Well, yeah, kid, there’s one more I’m thinking of, too! But I’m not telling!

Uh…

“One more…” she encouraged.

“Flick!” I shouted like some crazed contestant on a game show.

“That’s not it,” she said seriously.

It can’t be? She’s not thinking what I’m thinking?

“Stick!” she proclaimed. “Stick and brick!”

Phew!

  1. Man, if it was only that simple. Once they’re older, the words get only more uncomfortable. :-)

  2. Oh I LOVE it!
My oldest is in first grade. He was playing a rhyming game in class with his friends. Apparently they were trying to see who could come up with a new rhyming word the quickest. Someone said, “Witchy” so he blurted out “B*tchy” without thinking that that not a very nice word.
Oh I was so proud to hear the story from his teacher while we were both on lunch duty that day! Totally wanted to do a walk of shame!
