It’s Girl Scout Cookie time! Have you stuffed your face full of your favorite kind yet?
My eight-year-old daughter is enjoying her first year of Girl Scouts. She’s a Brownie. Last week, she was so excited to work at her troop’s cookie booth at a local super market.
I hung around for a few minutes to observe them in action before my daughter shooed me away. Later, when I picked her up, she told me a touching story that stemmed from her experience hawking Trefoils and Thin Mints.
“Mom, after you left there was a lady who came just because she wanted to buy Girl Scout cookies. She didn’t want to go to the store, she wanted to buy Girl Scout cookies! And she had a list of all the cookies she wanted to buy. But we didn’t have most of them, because we had sold out.”
“Oh, no! Did she get any?”
“Yes, she bought one box of Thin Mints.”
“Aw,” I said. “Was she an old lady?” I imagined an elderly lady, ala Betty White, clutching a list and slowly walking up to the Girl Scout cookie booth. My heart clenched as I pictured her disappointed upon learning that her favorites had sold out.
“No, she wasn’t an old lady,” answered my daughter. “She was a little old. Like you.”
Have you been called a little old lately? Or is there another adjective your kids have used to describe you? Please share and make me feel better about myself!
