Lose the Cape, Save Your Sanity

April 28, 2015 By Katy

As I took my car into the shop last week for yet another repair, I realized I still had to print out the Brownie permission slip for camping and turn it in with a check later than night. Plus, did I sign my daughter’s homework? I needed to make sure I washed my son’s lacrosse jersey later–last I checked, it was covered inΒ  mud! Plus, Grandma was begging me for ideas on what to buy the kids for her next visit, my husband was on a business trip, I was trying to eat healthier and needed to find recipes my kids would eat, and, oh yeah, could we hurry up and get me the loaner car so I could drive to work, hunt for a parking space downtown, and provide amazing service to my boss all day before I had to drive the kids to Brownies and lacrosse later?

Right there in the car dealership, with my mind swirling, I took off my Super Mom cape and burned it.

Okay, so I didn’t. I’m not one to claim I EVER put the Super Mom cape on in the first place. Which makes me an ideal candidate to review the new book, “Lose the Cape – Realities from Busy Modern Moms and Strategies to Survive” by Alexa Bigwarfe and Kerry Rivera.

Lose the Cape book

I’ve known Alexa and Kerry for years via the blogosphere and am exited to call them “authors” now that their book has come out. My thanks to them for providing a copy in exchange for my review.

“Lose the Cape” is a practical and fun book that provides tips to make this motherhood journey easier. It’s especially useful to mothers – whether stay-at-home moms, work-at-home moms, working moms, single moms, etc. – who may be feeling overwhelmed. In other words, all of us on any given day.

The book covers morning routines, new mom stressors, making mom friends, having a spouse, being a single mom, household chores, and more.

I found myself nodding my head in agreement with the tips and cheering for those who shared funny but true stories from their real lives. There’s plenty of common sense advice you may have heard before, but it’s presented in succinct, applicable ways for moms to make their lives a little easier.

Like a good pilates class, the book may challenge you to stretch, but there is always grace allowed to make your own modifications. The authors don’t preach, they share and encourage. They become your team members in the journey.

Lose the Cape is available on Amazon* and other fine retailers. So join the movement, lose the Super Mom cape, and get inspired.

What has worked for you to make motherhood a little easier? What tips would help you right now in your motherhood journey? Please share in the comments!

The number one thing that’s helped me in my admittedly short experience as a mother is to remember everything is a stage. Good, bad, it all passes! So enjoy the happy stuff, and be patient with the less-happy stuff πŸ™‚

You are so wise! Now go enjoy your baby while she’s still a baby. πŸ™‚

I really needed to read the chapter about being on the same page with your spouse. We haven’t always been good at that, but we’re working on it now.

I need to re-read and apply that chapter, too. But then, so does my husband!

Thanks for you review Katy. And boy do I hear you on those crazy days. I’ve been having a lot of them lately. My husband says they’ll come to an end in about 14 years. Yay! Such a motivator, that man. πŸ™‚

I feel like the part about the morning routine would make the entire book worth it. My mornings feel so off-balance!
