Chicken, Licorice, Money, and Lollipops

Those of you following me on Facebook know that my son asked me a very thought-provoking question recently. We were riding in the car when he queried, “Mom, what’s easier to cut? Chicken or licorice?”

Where does he come up with this stuff?

And what IS easier to cut?

I replied chicken. I was thinking licorice might be sticky. I mean, chicken is slimy, but when frozen, it slices quite nicely. And, yes, I can’t believe I’m publicly sharing my chicken vs. licorice rationale. Really, it could go either way, don’t you think?

Two days later, again in the car, Will asked me, “Who invented banks?”

“Uh,” I replied. “The Romans,” I suggested. “Like the Roman Empire,” I finished lamely. I have no idea if that’s true, but it sounded good to me.

“Well, whoever it is, I love them!” my son declared. “Because you get money at banks.” (My son sort of has a thing for money.)

His little sister, 5, chimed in, too. “And I love them because you get lollipops at the bank!”

Chicken, licorice, money, and lollipops.

Wow. I’m tired thinking about all this. Can we do some math homework now?

What are your loved ones talking about these days?
