Experienced Bad Grandpa stories

July 21, 2010 By Katy 2 Comments

I’m back! I know all three of you missed me.

This week’s stories revolve around my dad, a great man whom I love dearly. But even he has his bad grandpa moments.

Last week while we visited him and my mom in Montana they offered to watch the kids so Chad and I could go on a date. Woo hoo! Since they don’t live near us (meaning we can’t get a lot of free babysitting out of them) we jumped at the chance.

I laid out the kids’ pajamas to change into after bath. My mom had just bought them some new Carter’s 3-piece set pajamas. You know, you wear the same top with either shorts or long pants depending on the weather.

I told my mom that I left out the shorts and the pants so Sydney could decide which to wear. The night before Sydney had complained she was hot while wearing the pants, so maybe she would want to try the shorts tonight.

We came home and the kids were in bed. The next morning I noticed Sydney’s butt looked big! Turns out grandpa had given the kids their bath and dressed them in their jammies–all their jammies! Sydney was wearing undies, the shorts, and the pants on top of the shorts! My dad said he just dressed her in the jammies I had laid out. Way to think that through, Grandpa! đŸ™‚

But Grandpa is a great man. So great that he escorted Will to Boy Scout camp this week while Chad had to work. Except that when I picked them up from the camp yesterday Will was playing with his new Boy Scout *pocket-knife*. Grandpa had bought it for him so he could whittle. Of course, Will wanted it not so he could whittle, but so he could tell all his friends he had a knife!

As Will started swinging the knife around the backyard last night, Grandpa looked a little sheepish. And then Chad shared the story of when he was 8 and cut himself with a pocket knife while playing. So now the knife is in a safe place (aka NOT Will’s possession!).

But Grandpa, you really are awesome for all the you do! And, we love you! Plus, you prove that we are all human–even good guys can make bad choices sometimes. đŸ™‚

Poor grandpa! My parents have done some interesting things with my kids before, which always makes me stop and say…”you raised two kids on your own, and yet this?” lol
