Will, 8, got glasses this Fall |
“Will did something today,” the teacher said.
Oh, geez. I felt myself tense. I was picking Will up from his after-school program. We were new to this program this Fall and, to be honest, the teachers had told me on two different occasions that Will was not listening to them and/or was roughhousing with his friends too much.
So I braced myself for what I might hear next.
“Ask him to tell you what he did,” she said softly. “It was very touching.”
Oh.
“What’d you do today?” I asked him as we walked to the car.
“There was this handicap boy and we had races and I let him win. He was so excited.”
Aww. I gave Will a hug. And told him I was proud of him. And then I cried a little inside because my boy–the one who doesn’t listen and who plays too boisterously at times–is good after all.
