School’s been out a few weeks now and my family has adapted to our new summer schedule. My kids, ages 10 and 6, go to summer camp the three days a week that I work outside the home.
My 10-year-old son has gone to summer camp since the summer after kindergarten. That means he’s enjoying his fifth summer of camp.
In all those years, he has brought home a grand total of ZERO crafts.
I repeat, ZERO.
Meanwhile, my six-year-old daughter is in her first summer of camp. After just her seventh DAY, I took the following picture:
We’ve got crafts, people!
There’s blankets, purses, artwork, Barbie living rooms (I kid you not!) and who-knows-what-else!
Who says boys and girls aren’t different?!?
The proof is in the crafts!
What are your kids doing this summer?

Often, they think girls only do crafts, but it’s not true! Boys like them also!

Yes, Tess, this is just the difference between my boy and my girl. Really, I should just say my two kids! Because lots of kids are different and like to do different things.

This made me chuckle! I only have one boy, and he’d much rather play instead of make crafts! We’re currently spending a few weeks with my sister who has two girls, so I’ve been able to get my crafting fill!

Michelle, I love it when people say I made them chuckle! That’s exactly why I blog, so thanks. 🙂

We are doing a hodge-podge of different camps. So far, so good. The kids are having a blast. Not too many art projects, thankfully!! 🙂

We’re not a crafty family and I know my boys wouldn’t have brought home any either. Well maybe my 8yr old but definitely not my 12.

Oh my gosh, my son is the same way! He has always told me he does not like crafts. Or drawing/coloring. Or stickers. He’d rather play, dig, ride a bike, “invent” something. I’m with you, there really IS a difference.

Yes, it’s just who my son is! I remember in his preschool class when he was 3, that art time was a choice. He chose to NEVER do art for an entire year! He’s great with Legos and playing sports tho.
Lindsy says
My cowboy hated crafts. At preschool he would draw one line of color and be off playing again. But he’d do crafts at home with me. We’ll see if my wild thing is any different.

My 3 boys love art, we have artists and writers in our bunch. While they enjoy being rough and tumble boys, I am thankful that I have my share of crafts and artwork. In fact, I really have to go through and get them into albums. Their dad and uncles are artists as well so I guess it’s in their blood 🙂 Of course only when they make something for me does it have any pink in it 🙂
Enjoy your summer full of pretty crafts!

Wish my uncraftloving 10yo would enjoy reading more, too! He’s into video games (sigh).
