So this week I am honored to have a guest post — ha! Actually, the story I am about to share is true, and happened to a friend of mine, but out of respect for her I will not share her identity. Just know that she is a fabulous working mom with a very important, sort of life saving job (think doctor, but she’s not a doctor).
She was commiserating with me about how little moments in the day can make you feel like a bad mom. Turns out her daughter came home from kindergarten and asked, “Mommy, why don’t you leave me notes in my lunch?”
“What? What are you talking about?”
“Ashley’s mom and Victoria’s mom leave them notes in their lunch telling them they love them, but you don’t. Why?”
“What? I’m tired” my friend replied. (If you worked her schedule while raising two kids, you’d be tired, too.)
So we moms realize it’s not enough to just pack a lunch anymore. It should be served with a note to boost your child’s self-confidence and help them emotionally navigate through this world. Oh, and let’s not forget it has to be nutritious, non-allergenic, and “green” with recyclable packaging or organic ingredients.
I’m just lucky if I remember to pack a lunch and my kindergartener will eat it. Forget all that other stuff! If that makes me a bad mom, leave me a note in my lunch about it.
