Happy New Year!
Can you believe Will has homework over the holiday break? Granted, it is a small project. But really!
We have a penguin that he needs to decorate and cut out. On the penguin’s belly he needs to finish the sentence “I wonder…” with something he wants to learn about. I planted such great ideas as “I wonder why it snows” or “I wonder when it will snow again”. He wants to put, “I wonder about Bakugans.”
Hmm. The Bakugan battle brawlers were THE hot toy this Christmas. They pop open into different creatures with powers and you pretend they battle each other. I mentioned them at the parent teacher conference in November, telling Will’s teacher how much he likes them and that he points out the different shapes they make and how they come in different colors. His teacher replied, “Well, I guess that’s something good from a toy that battles.” Ouch! I don’t consider them violent toys that will send him straight to juvie, but maybe not everyone believes they are innocuous.
So do I put down “I wonder about Bakugans” because that’s really what he wonders about? Or am I supposed to be a good mom whose son wonders about more educational things? I’m leaning towards Bakugans, because that’s the truth. If that’s not what geniuses wonder about, so be it.
Now to open my good mom drawer of art supplies and let him decorate the penguin with the suggested “fabric and wallpaper scarps.” Who has wallpaper scraps these days? I think the last time someone wallpapered a room was 1988. He’s going to have to color the stupid Bakugan penguin and be done with it. Maybe if I’m feeling frisky I’ll let him glue some wrapping paper on the bird.
So, what did Will “wonder” about? And, even more importantly, did you find the wallpaper for that bird?
I went with I wonder about Bakugans and he just colored it in many different colors. No scaps!
