The other night I was cuddling with Sydney, 5, before bedtime.
“Mom,” she said, her face inches from mine as we lay in her twin bed. Her little breath was warm on my skin. “I didn’t just have a NICE day, I had an ICE day.”
Huh, I thought.
She continued. “I helped Daddy clean the ICE off the driveway. I went ICE skating. I ate ICE cream!”
Wow. I get it. It was an ICE day! That’s pretty brilliant!
After a goodnight hug and kiss, I quickly went to my bedroom. I whipped out a little notebook I bought once upon a time where I write down cute things my kids say. I felt very proud that
1) my daughter made such a fantastic play on words at age 5 and
2) I remembered to log it for posterity’s sake. (Her last entry was 6 months ago! Bad
mom!)
Then I went downstairs and found my husband balancing the checkbook. (I know, I know, the life we live…so sexy!). I told him that his daughter said the most amazing thing.
“Oh, yay? What?”
I started to share her brilliance. Her play on words. Her recall of the day’s events. She’s soooo smart.
The corners of his mouth started to twitch. Soon his shoulders were shaking. When he could stand it no more, he burst out laughing.
“I told her to tell you that,” he said chuckling. “It was all me.”
WHHAAAATTT?
Oh, geeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzz.
I smacked him with the checkbook, put a voodoo hex on the checkbook numbers so they wouldn’t balance (I’m kidding) and then I started laughing myself.
Have you ever found yourself over the top when it comes to your kids?

Too funny! My hubby has done that to me a time or two as well. Oh, and I love that you said you put a voodoo hex on the checkbook!
