This Sunday our church presented the 3rd graders with Bibles.
When I prepped Will for this momentous occasion (i.e. don’t pick your nose in front of the church, be respectful), he asked this after learning he would receive a Bible:
“Do I have to read it all?”
“Eventually,” I said and then started a sweet mother-son dialogue about the lovely Bible and all the goodies inside it. In fact, I told him, Jesus was Jewish. Did he know that?
“So he celebrates Hannukah and not Christmas,” Will deduced.
Uh, we better start reading that 3rd grade Bible sooner rather than later!
Update: I woke up this morning and realized Will was right–I don’t think Jesus would have celebrated Christmas?! It’s not like He sang “Silent Night” to himself while decorating a tree, but then, did He and His family light a menorah all those many years ago? I’m intrigued! Thank you to my 3rd grader for making me think.

Ok you know I am not the sharpest tool in the shed on this topic but Jesus would have celebrated his birthday, right?!
