I’ve wanted to mention ABC’s The Middle for sometime now. I love its humor and look forward to watching it Wednesday nights.
In a nutshell, The Middle is a comedy about a working-class family in Indiana. Mom and Dad both work jobs while raising 3 kids (1 in elementary school, 1 in middle school, and 1 in high school). The family is lovingly average.
I guess that most of the episodes are written by a mom who works outside the home. Last year, I got hooked watching an episode where Frankie, the mom, is stressed out. A coworker recommends she takes 15 minutes to herself, so she locks herself in a bathroom at work. You see her trying to recline on the toilet, sprinkle cool water on her face, recharge and refresh, etc. She also turns off her cell phone so no one interrupts her.
Fifteen minutes later it turns out that her husband and 3 kids have all suffered calamaties of various sorts because Mom wasn’t available! I know how that feels!
It’s a cute, family-friendly show and I recommend it.
Now if I could only get my kids to fall asleep on command at 8 pm so I could watch it uninterrupted…
Update: The kids and I sat down to watch The Middle together! Duh. It is family-friendly after all. Will asked me when it was coming on again, so he must have liked it (or else he liked staying up to watch TV!)
