(Okay, so I’m not on vacation–yet. And I was telling this story to my co-workers, at least 1 of whom reads my blog, thank you, and she said this story was definitely blog worthy. So here it is!)
We were talking about Montana at the dinner table. I was trying to get the kids excited for our vacation. There would be mountains, forests, etc. They would even get to buy a souvenir, too.
“What’s a souvenir?” asked Sydney.
“Uh, a toy,” I said.
“What kind of toy?” she asked.
“Ooo!” I said. “They have Pocahontas toys!”
“Acutally,” said my lovely (and correct) husband, “it’s more like Sacajawea toys.”
“But I wanted to relate it to something she knows about,” I argued. “And Pocahontas was a Disney movie.”
“Sydney,” asked Chad. “Do you know who Sacajawea is?”
“Lewis and Clark’s girl,” she replied.
Chad looked at me with a satisfied grin.
And here I was trying to dumb it down for my 3-year-old! I was the dumb one for underestimating her!
