It’s funny how things that were cool when we were younger come back around to be cool now that we’re older.
Let me explain how what’s old is new again.
My daughter, 14, is a freshman in high school this year. She recently completed her JV golf season and attended the end-of-season golf banquet.
The team looked lovely, all gussied up to enjoy the banquet.
That’s when I saw them, though.
One of the team captains was wearing a dress–and Doc Martens on her feet.
I did a double take.
Doc Martens!
Hello, the 1990s paged (because there was no texting then, remember?) and they want their iconic footwear back!
But what I found hard to believe was how my daughter and her teammates didn’t realize that their totally dorky parents thought Doc Martens were cool waaaaaaaaay before they did.
Hmph.
And there are other things that are popular now that used to be popular back in the day.
Like the Pee Wee Herman suits.
Well, I guess that was the 80s. And the suit was consider more dorky than cool.
Yet, I see all these young men and/or professional athletes wearing these high-water skinny suits that remind me of Pee Wee Herman.
And can we talk about how my teenage daughter leaves the house looking like a combination of Gwen Stefani from her No Doubt days and the Spice Girls?
Teenage girl fashion is currently about slip dresses or tank tops with baggy pants. And hairstyles with wispy pieces of hair pulled out around the face or held up with itty bitty hair clips.
What’s next? The Rachel hairstyle from Friends?
What was cool when you were younger that your kids think is cool now?
