Pennies for Peace–or Pizza?

April 22, 2010 By Katy Leave a Comment

This morning Will shouted, “Mom! I need to take pennies to school today!”

“Why?” I asked.

“It’s called Pennies for Peace. Our class is filling up a jar with pennies. I need to take pennies!”

This was doable. We have at least 3 penny jars around the house. I scooped out a couple hundred pennies for Will to take to school.

“There you go,” I said. “That’s a lot of pennies that people can use to make peace. Or not be poor. Or whatever.”

“It’s not really for peace, mom. It’s for pizza. The class that collects the most pennies gets a pizza party!”

Aha. Great. It’s not about the peace, it’s about the pizza!
