Tuesday night I sent my son and husband off to Boy Scouts, but not before I noticed something flapping around on my son’s chest.
Turns out it was the Bear and Wolf patches on his Boy Scout uniform.
So what? You ask.
Well, he’s been a Wolf for 18 months now and a Bear for at least 6 months. So the fact that the patches are merely fastened to his uniform with safety pins, rather than sewn on his uniform, clearly indicates our failings as parents:
And, yes, I’m saying “OUR” because I’m not the only one taking the fall on this lack of sewing! I know pretty much nothing about Boy Scouts except that their popcorn is overpriced. So Dad, the Boy Scout connoisseur, must go down on the lack of sewing, too.
I’m also going to admit that we skipped the Boy Scout’s Pinewood Derby this year {gasp} and I’m not sorry about that one bit. Dad was out of town and our pack is full of Detroit-area auto engineers. All of which means there’s nothing for us to learn at the Pinewood Derby except how to lose. And we’ve learned that three years in a row now so we’re good.
Are your kids in Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts?

I have two words for you: hot glue! That’s how all the scouting badges were attached when I was growing up! My kids do the Lowe’s and Home Depot Jr. Builder programs on Saturdays and that’s how I attach those badges. Huge time/sanity saver and no one will ever know the difference!!

🙂 I feel like I bought one at the Dollar Store once. I have two or three. I know they have the glue sticks for them there. They were in the craft aisle. I use it for everything. In fact, I just hot glue our chore charts to the wall in our house. They kept falling down!! (Don’t tell my husband!!)

Stitch witchery from JoAnns.. You just iron it on and it is waterproof. You can hem curtains, or hem pants with them also.

Oooo. Sounds magical!

I was a girl guide leader last year and I can tell you most of those patches were held in a big clump with one safety pin. I’m not sure if guides is a lot different than Scouts but I think they are pretty close in comparison, it’s not the moms job to sew them on, the kids should do it themselves.

Good to know! 🙂 My husband just pointed out that we have a drawer full of Webelos belt loops now that neither of us know what we’re supposed to do with.
