Stylin’ with eShakti

February 16, 2015 By Katy 5 Comments

When it comes to fashion, I bet three words pop into your mind:

Experienced Bad Mom.

Yup, my readers trust me to deliver the latest trends and hottest styles.

{Ahem! Cough!}

In reality, I’m an average working mom who writes a humor blog. Yet, perhaps that’s exactly why I was excited when eShakti, the only online women’s fashion apparel company offering sizes 0-36W & custom clothing, offered me an item in exchange for my honest opinion. Since I rarely deviate from the Lands End catalog, I jumped at the chance to dabble in the world of high fashion.

Order up

There were dozens of choices on the eShakti website, almost all dresses or shirts. I seriously wanted to order a cute dress like these:

However, I remembered I have nowhere to go in a dress! Ha. A blouse was much more practical for my life. I was in need of an updated chambray shirt and selected this one:

The great thing about eShakti is you can customize your order with your measurements, or simply order a standard size. I chose to order a standard size 10 and then inputted that I’m 5’11” tall. Perhaps that meant it would come a little longer? I’m not sure. If you wish, you can customize the sleeve type (i.e. cap or 3/4 length) and the body length (above, at, or below the hip) for a small additional charge.

Details, details

Within 2 weeks, my order arrived from India. I was impressed by the overall look and quality of the garment. The stitching was straight and tight–and there was a lot of it with the princess seams and button-up sleeves. The material was medium weight, not too heavy, not too flimsy. The front and sleeves boasted pearlized shell buttons.

Here I am in super model mode with my new shirt:

I’ll admit the fit was disappointing. You can’t tell in the picture, but it fits snug around my trunk. It’s just a smidge too small. I think a size 12 would have been better.  I should have either ordered up, knowing that I often fluctuate between a 10 and 12, or I should have gone to the extra effort to submit my custom measurements. However, I could also use it as a layering piece (see? I’m a fashionista!) so I tried it over a turtleneck:

Many thanks to my eight-year-old for snapping these pictures.

I should’ve known you were either short or tall! Us bookends on the bell curve seem to hit it off, don’t you think? We understand what it’s like to be just a little outside normal. 🙂

I want so many dresses…and then remember now is not a season in my life where any nice, new clothes are practical purchases. But I did find a lot of affordable maternity stuff from ASOS!

I would have loved to have more affordable maternity choices back in the day! It was hard being pregnant and taller than what most stuff at Motherhood Maternity could work for.

I bet you would look smashing in these eShakti dresses!

Despite your issues with the fit, I think you look GREAT in that shirt! A good chambray shirt is so darn versatile.
