As we have settled into Will’s school year, I keep thinking this lunch thing should get easier. But it doesn’t.
Some days he braves the cafeteria, usually when the menu boasts a dessert. Most days he takes a lunch. He also needs a non-allergenic snack for later in the afternoon.
So the night before a school day, after consulting the cafeteria menu, I go ahead and pack him a lunch. Last week, I had the genius idea of packing two identical lunches and putting both in the fridge. Score! I wouldn’t have to pack another lunch for 2 whole days!
When I left for work in the morning, I showed both Will and my husband a lunch bag and that I was putting it in Will’s backpack.
That evening Will’s backpack looked fuller than usual. When I looked inside, he had two lunch bags. He had put the 2nd lunch from the fridge into the backpack. Both he and his father failed to remember the 1st lunch or even notice it was already in the backpack.
Will ate 1 lunch and of course the other one spoiled. Now I had to throw out 1 lunch and still make another lunch for the next day! This is what I get for trying to be organized!
