The paper was not much to look at. In fact, I almost chucked it in the recycling. It was a darkly colored photocopy of a turkey, just another paper in the massive pile that comes home every evening in my son’s backpack.
But then I looked closer and started reading the words. I’m glad I did. Will, 7, wrote the following:
I’m thankful for my home. It is warm and cozy. I’m thankful for my pets. I take care of him. He is a boy. I have a fish. I’m thankful for writing. If we did not have writing, we would not be able to invite people to my birthday. I’m thankful for water. If we did not have water we would die! I’m thankful for clothing. If we did not have clothing we would be naked. I’m thankful for food. If we did not have food we would die! Last is love.
It makes me happy that he has so much to be thankful for. And he makes me laugh and so thankful to be his mom!
