The Difference Between Moms and Dads

July 27, 2012 By Katy 14 Comments

“I got an interesting call today at work,” I said to my husband. We were out on the deck, relaxing after work.

“Oh?”

“Yes, Little Johnny’s mom called me. She wanted to know if Will had a birthday party. Then she wanted to know if he did, then why didn’t he invite Little Johnny. And then she wanted to tell me that if Will did have a birthday party, and Little Johnny wasn’t invited, then that was OK, too, because they would ‘process’ it.”

“Huh,” he said.

“Yeah, she was almost frantic about it. Wasn’t that weird? And all of that while I was at work.”

“Well, what did you say?” he asked.

“I asked her where she got her information from. She told me some other 9-year-old. I laughed and told her that no, Will didn’t have a birthday party.”

[Obivously, Little Johnny’s mom is not a fan of the blog, or she would have known there was no party because of the Giant Indoor Waterpark.]

Attention all moms who know me from real life: this picture was from LAST year’s birthday party. There was NOT a birthday party this year. Please stop calling me.

“So then she laughed,” I continued, “and said ‘good, because I thought Little Johnny and Will were friends’. And I was like, yes, let’s set up a playdate. And all of this while I was at work.”

“Huh.”

“Heeeeeeey,” I said to my husband. Suddenly, I found myself a little irritated. “YOU would never get a call at work like that from another Dad, would you?”

“Nope,” he said. “If I did, the conversation would go like this:

     Screw you.

     Screw you.

Ok, want to get a beer?

Sigh. And there you have it. Dads have it so much easier sometimes!

That is not only bold for her to have called you in the first place, but to have called you at work, is just flat out crazy! I think I would have been dumbfounded.

Yeah, dads/guys get off so easily. Why is it that problems in their worlds are always solved with beer?

I cannot believe she called you at work to ask you that! I really can’t even believe she would call and ask you that no matter where you are. So weird…

I mean, I guess she was really hurting for her child and wanted to help fix that hurt. But still. They’re 9 now. And then to find out there was no reason for the hurt after all, too.

HA HA. This is really funny. Chad is right, men never would do anything like this.

Wow…That sounds like a nightmare…and does having a play date mean you get to sit with her drinking awkward coffee while your kids play? eek. You are a better person than me because I would have been too bewildered to even think of having her over.

The beauty of 9 year olds is the drop-off playdate! No awkward coffee conversations anymore. 🙂

ahh you lucky woman….2 year old play dates suck. At least when I am hosting. I cannot handle the mess! Luckily for us we moved so we have yet to make new friends! woot.

That is funny that she called you. I see it now (not being invited) as not having to buy a $20 present. 🙂 In the last two weeks, we had three birthday parties which cost me almost $60 in gifts.

Argh. Don’t they just drive you mad.
My thought on the matter of children being left off the invite list is: Clearly the poor mother couldn’t cope with too many kids in her house at one time. Bless her and good for her, too. I only asked half the class this year… and next year it will be a whole 4 kids! No more! As much fun as I had decorating party favours in the theme… too many kids! The besties are all that are attending next year. And I get to decorate more stuff for less people… works for everyone (but mostly for me… can’t deny that.)
