An epic meltdown.
From my daughter and me.
That was one of the very first stories I shared on this blog. There was crying in the car for 20 minutes (her) and crying at a police officer (me) who dared stop us when we weren’t doing anything except trying to get home and calm down.
But you know what? EVERY kid has a meltdown at some point. And so does EVERY mother! (Maybe just not in front of law enforcement. That’s saved for us *experienced* bad moms!)
Today I’m pleased to be interviewing one of the fabulously talented authors,
Michele Nahom, of The Mother of All Meltdowns. In the Mother of All Meltdowns, Michelle and her twenty-nine co-authors (aka a bunch of hot mamas losing their cool) tell it like it is: how to lose your mommy cool and survive thrive! MOAM is full of stories that are sometimes hilarious, always honest and real.
Michelle calls herself a soccer mom with 3 kids, married to her college sweetheart for over 20 years. She blogs from her home in Connecticut at A Dish of Daily Life, where she shares recipes, photo organizing tips, parenting stories and more. She has a solid, interactive fan base that has grown in the short time she’s been blogging due to (IMO!) her warmth, interactive style, and awesome content.
Let’s hear from her now.How did you get involved with the Mother of All Meltdowns book?
The book was Crystal Ponti’s (Mommifried) brainchild. She asked me if I wanted to participate. I was very much a newbie blogger at that point, and shocked that an established blogger would include me, but I am grateful I had that opportunity. Of course I said yes, and the rest is history.
Many of the stories shared by the authors are funny, but you share a more serious meltdown you had concerning your son’s health scare. How did you decide to write about that experience?
I think any mom can relate to losing it when a doctor just kind of blows off your concerns. ESPECIALLY when it’s about something major like your kid stops breathing. All I can say is the first ER doctor that day is lucky I didn’t lose it after what he said to me. The second ER doc got an explosion of epic proportions.
Do you have a favorite meltdown in the book that makes you laugh or nod your head in total agreement?
There were so many! But Excuse Me, Complete Stranger by Debra Cole hit a nerve because I had something very similar happen to me when my two kids were misbehaving in the grocery store. When I disciplined them by leaving the store, an oh-so-helpful stranger followed me out to offer me some unsolicited and very unwelcome advice. If you’d like to read about what happened, here’s the story: Dealing with Parenting Advice from Strangers Unlike Debra, I was stunned into silence.
What are you looking forward to this Mother’s Day?
For some reason the powers that be always schedule soccer games on Mother’s Day. I can pretty much guarantee there will be 2-3 games on that day. I can’t recall a Mother’s Day I have spent differently in years.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Hands down, all the friends I have made. And they become even more real when you go to a blog conference and meet them in person!
Thanks, Michelle!
The Mother of All Meltdowns is available at Amazon through Mother’s Day for only $0.99! I highly recommend it. And did you know that there is a new Mother of All Meltdown Community? It’s a community for the perfectly imperfect mother, a place where you can let your guard down and talk about the meltdowns, struggles, and less rosy aspects of being a mom.

Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to join you here on your blog today! I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. I remember when it happened to me, I felt like I was the only one is the world who couldn’t keep it together. It was really nice to read everyone else’s story and realize I wasn’t alone. I would love to hear your law enforcement meltdown story…it sounds like a good one!!

My pleasure to host this stop on the book tour and interview you!
I wanted to link to my law enforcement meltdown, but must I have deleted it long ago. (I recall I used a photo without acknowledging the source and in my younger blogger years I freaked out that that would get me in trouble! Should have just deleted the pic – ha)

Loved seeing Michelle here today and will say I can very much relate to her story and have even had my own issues when my older daughter was sick last year with her then pediatrician. Thanks for the wonderful interview and for the awesome nod to the book today, too 🙂

I’m sure every mom has a story about coming completely unglued over things great … and small. I remember losing it over a Lego model that came apart in my hands. [Shakes head.] Who knew colored plastic could engender such rage? Lovely interview. Always nice to see one of my favorite bloggers, Michelle Nahom, interviewed. Thanks, ladies!

Oh, Norine, those Legos! Little torture devices. We were hot and heavy for a few years. I was always losing it considering where to display the latest masterpiece. THERE. WAS. NO. ROOM!

No soccer games for us on Mother’s Day, but it’s also my husband’s birthday, so I have to share. Or he has to share. Either way, I’m sure it will just be another hectic day! Thanks so much for participating in our book’s blog tour, Katy. I consider myself an experienced bad mom too!
