Things I Wonder About on Kids’ TV Shows

July 20, 2012 By Katy 12 Comments

Let’s get this right out there: I let my children watch TV.

There.

And when they’ve been watching TV, most of the time I’ve been watching along with them. Which brings to mind several pressing questions about children’s TV shows.

Here, in no particular order, are the things I wonder about on kids’  TV shows:

  1. Why does Dora the Explorer always sound like she’s yelling?
  2. SpongeBob: fruit of the devil? Or quirky and sweet?
  3. Do those actors on shows like the Fresh Beat Band or Power Rangers realize their roles are career killers?
  4. What happened to the Teletubbies? Did they retire in England somewhere?
  5. Are Fred and Daphne on Scooby Doo a couple or aren’t they?
  6. Where are iCarly’s parents?
  7. Why is Charlie Brown bald?
  8. Why is Caillou bald?
  9. What are the Doodlebops?
  10. Why does this picture of the Doodlebops with Caillou FREAK ME OUT?

What do you wonder about on children’s TV shows?

I’ve always wondered why Caillou has sleepovers with his older friend, Sarah… weird!

I always wondered why Caillou was bald too, so I googled it. It said so that he relates with all children, not a particular one.

    bahaha. I love this.

Dora really is always yelling…but more importantly…why is she allowed to vamanos wherever she pleases without adult supervision?….and when did she and Shakira because such close buds?

I also cannot stand spongebob. It was originally meant for adult swim if i am not mistaken. I personally just think the show is obnoxious.

    loved the post!

My toddler loves Play School, an Aussie children’s programe where they sing a lot. Sing a lot. Everything can be a song and now I find myself going, “It’s the weekend and I’m going to make a cup a tea” trula-la-la al-lar. “where are my jeans? where are my jeans? trula-la-la-la…

Sponge Bob is an absolute no go in my house. Crabby Patty lives in Bikini Bottom. No thanks to the subliminal messaging!

I had never noticed Dora is always yelling but now that you pointed it out – that’s hilarious. Fresh Beats and Lance of Yo Gabba – how do you get those jobs?

I am sitting here now watching cartoons on TV with my daughter … and have had many of the same questions you mentioned in the blog post! I can’t stand SpongeBob and my daughter knows it … 🙂 She calls it “the show Mommy doesn’t like” …
I really like Good Luck Charlie …
Right now we are watching PoundPuppies and I keep remembering all my cute stuffed animals that I had when I was little that really looked nothing like the characters on this show …

Dora is Latina and we yell a lot lol. I LOVE Spongebob, though. My biggest wonder has always been, “Where in the heck are Max & Ruby’s parents??” This was funny, thanks!

    Great post! Love it.

    1. Where are Ruby and Max’s parents and do they know Ruby is a brat?
    2. Why are Oswald’s friends so selfish?
    3. Does ANYONE really watch Oobi?
