Don’t get me wrong. I love our library. The children’s section is awesome, with plenty of books, movies, computers, games, and programs.
That said, I have had issues with our library time and time again. I feel that I may go ballistic there one day!
Just the other day I was at the library with Sydney, age 4. She told me she wanted stamps on her hands. The children’s librarians often have a few different ink stamps with different color ink pads. Lots of little kids like to receive stamps on their hands. So we went up to the reference desk.
The librarian smiled at Sydney and asked, “Yes? May I help you?”
“May I have stamps?” Sydney asked, placing her hands on the desk palms down. She was ready for her stamps!
“What’s the special word?” the librarian asked.
Huh? Special word? What’s she talking about? Isn’t it magic word?
Sydney replied, “Stamps.”
“Nooooo,” the librarian said, shaking her head in disapproval, lips pursed as she then muttered “tsk-tsk”. I swear her eyes flitted in my direction, blaming me for not teaching my daughter the special word.
“Uh,” I stumbled. “Sydney, I think she wants to know what’s the magic word.”
“Please,” Sydney automatically replied.
Take that, Miss Disapproving Librarian! It’s magic word, not special word! I’ll give you a *special* word…or two…
