We’re chock full of learning around the house these days.
Just this week my 9-year-old had to find out who invented the telegraph for his Webelos (Scouts) project.
While various dudes worked on bits and pieces of the electric telegraph, it is widely accepted that Samuel Morse, of Morse code fame, invented the practical electric telegraph. And the consensus is that he invented it in 1837.
I quizzed my son on these 2 facts. (My kid’s not gonna be the deadbeat Webelo.)
“Who invented the telegraph?”
“Samuel Morse,” he answered.
“What year?”
“1895.”
“WRONG!”
“1863”
“EARLIER!”
“Uh…”
“It was 1837,” I finished.
That’s when my 6-year-old daughter piped up. “1837? Whoa! He’s dead!”
We all giggled.
And then we giggled some more.
“I’m smart,” she finished.
What have you learned lately?

My oldest asks so many questions that stump us all the time.. how many bones does a baby have, do polar bears live in Antartica, etc, etc. (237 and NO, in case you were wondering). It’s fun though!

Haha! She is smart! I’ve recently learned that the word “fishes” is the proper way to describe more than one species of fishes. Doesn’t that sounds terribly wrong?? Fishes. You use the word fish (plural form) to describe more than one of the same species, but you use fishes if you’re referring to several species of more than one fishes. See. It’s confusing. But, that’s what I learned.
