A Pathetic Elf and Magical Mail Box

December 12, 2013 By Katy 14 Comments

I’m getting into the Christmas spirit around here. It’s hard not to what with the office holiday potluck this week, the Christmas lights in my neighborhood, and the incessant hum from my computer as I purchase gifts online.

Never fear, though, I am an Experienced Bad Mom and thus incapable of having the perfect Christmas season.

Case in point:

We woke up the other day and Kevin, our elf, was just hanging out, awkwardly, on the kitchen counter.

elfn2 I had gone to bed and my husband had good intentions to assist Kevin in finding a magical location, but got distracted. So awkward spot on the kitchen counter it was. The kids were perplexed. We distracted them with sweets, excuses and a trip to meet Santa. Which is ironic considering we took them to meet Santa about 2 hours after we mailed him their Christmas letters. Could have given him those letters in person!

But then I would have missed this great Christmas moment:

Are you in the Christmas spirit? Anything gone wrong or right at your house this holiday season?

Every year ( ok the last 3) I’ve wanted to do the whole elf on the shelf thing but I fear the elf would continuously end up in really really boring places. Maybe next year. We’ll see

One of my friends had a great idea, which she happened into by chance. She brings the elf out one week before Christmas instead of at Thanksgiving like the accompanying book says. 7 nights is totally manageable vs. 30 nights! Wish I could go back and do that.

This is one of my favorite elf pictures of all. I’m serious. Everyone else is all like see my cute elf here and there. This is probably more true to life as to what happens to many poor elves. Thank you for shining a light on this elf problem. Hahaha! I have cracked myself up, thank you for that.

Glad to have helped. Maybe I should start a pathetic elf support group! Or just call it the “Elf in the Shelf in the Real World”. 🙂

As many people as there are creeped out by the elf, I think the humans need a support group too 🙂

That damn elf drives me insane. Last year my daughter hid it…she says she is creepy…the other day she saw her…..ripped her skirt off …put it on a stuffed dog and threw elfie on the floor….I haven’t seen it since. I can’t keep up with it.

My older sister is seriously freaked out by the elf. Can’t stand it. It does have a creepy look and really weird body!

Our elf, Twinkle, hasn’t moved for days! My daughter is 21 months, so she doesn’t really notice yet. I ran out of ideas that were out of reach.

Good for you. Enjoy not having to move it! And see my comment above about maybe choosing for your elf to come out 1 week before Christmas vs. a whole month. Much more manageable. 🙂

I might do that! We’ll be able to move her more places in future years too. Right now, we’re limited to one room. She’d get frustrated if she had to search more!

Well I hope Mr Elf finds a more comfortable location. We are hit with the dread Swedish Winter Vomiting Disease – yes it is a thing – so no, things have not gone how I planned! The only thing on my Chrismtas wish list at the moment is Detol!

Does the Elf on the Shelf visit Sweden? Or just the dreaded winter vomiting disease? I bet the disease moves around the house faster and more stealthily than the little Elf anyway. Get better Lou Lou and family!

I literally choked on my coffee seeing your Elf picture!!! At least he wasn’t face down or God forbid on the floor! HA!! I can’t tell you how many times I have forgotten that bugger! IT’s literally like an exercise program that you can’t wait to finish. How many more days??!!

    TOO funny!

The kids were sooo perplexed. We suggested maybe he was tired or maybe he was climbing in the vase of birthday roses next to him and he fell. Whatevs. It’s another day so we can try again! Thanks for letting me know I brightened your day. That makes my day!
