Feel-Good Movies To Watch When You Need a Pick-Me-Up

January 24, 2021 By Katy 3 Comments

Welp. The holiday season is long over, the days are dark and cold, and the Coronavirus is still impacting everything.

What do you do when you need a pick-me up?

Personally, I re-watch some of my favorite movies. They provide a guaranteed 90-120 minute boost of joy. Most are romantic comedies and some are even considered classics now due to their age. Just like me!

So brighten winter’s dark days with these fun flicks. Here are my favorite feel-good movies to watch when you need a pick-me-up.

The Pitch Perfect Trilogy

The original Pitch Perfect came out in 2012 and tells the story of the Barden Bellas, an all-female college a ccapella group, as they compete for a national title. That doesn’t sound funny, but it is! Mostly due to an appealing cast of characters and their sharp tongues and physical comedy.

Add two sequels and the Pitch Perfect trilogy will have you smiling or laughing almost every time.

Mannequin

Put Andrew McCarthy in his prime together with the undiscovered Kim Cattrall and you get the cute story of a window dresser and mannequin who fall in love in a Philadelphia department store in 1987.

You read that right: it’s about a man who falls in love with a mannequin that comes to life.

It’s cheesy, totally implausible, but sweet and fun at the same time.

Legally Blonde

This 2001 romantic comedy is a classic for a reason. Reese Witherspoon plays a seemingly vapid blonde who turns out to have a big brain and a big heart. She attends Harvard Law School to get back together with her boyfriend, but finds true friends and her true calling as a lawyer instead.

13 Going On 30

Jennifer Garner is adorable as a time-traveling 13-year-old in this rom com. She suddenly transports from her awkward junior high self in the 1980s into a flirty, successful 30-year-old in 2004. Mark Garaffolo (aka The Hulk!) plays her love interest. The 80s soundtrack is retro and fun, like, totally.

Tommy Boy

This one’s for watching with the men in your life. It’s a silly, dumb movie from 1995 filled with physical comedy–as well as heart and humor.

Chris Farley plays Tommy Boy, a post-college frat boy suddenly called upon to save the family business along with an uptight accountant (David Spade). There’s an epic road trip and epic villains played by Rob Lowe, former 80s teen heartthrob turned respectable TV show actor, and Dan Akroyd.

Holy Schnikes, it’s stupid and fun!

It has been ages since I have watched Mannequin, but I totally need to! Maybe even tonight 🙂

      It’s cheesy, but so entertaining.
