My dearest Experienced Bad Mom readers,
Some of you may have noticed I’ve slowed down on posting new content here on the blog. That’s on purpose, because composing new posts, while fun, is a bit of time suck.
Instead, I’m focusing my time on writing new content for wider audiences, which does pay a teensy bit more than putting my content for free here on my lil ol’ blog.

My latest original essays
I’m fortunate that I’ve had two original essays published recently on Business Insider.
Both are sport-related, although not the same sport.
First, I shared what it was like growing up the daughter of a professional football player. That one was fun because it came out Super Bowl Sunday so I plugged it online with clever social media posts that started with bangers like, “Who likes football??”
Then I wrote another new essay about women’s ice hockey.
Those of you who have been around the blog a long time know that both my kids grew up playing hockey and that I love being a Hockey Mom. It’s from my perspective as a Hockey Mom to my daughter especially that I shared my conflicted thoughts about the US Women’s Hockey Team and their invitation to the White House after the Olympics.
You can skate over (see what I did there?) and read my women’s hockey essay here.
The “Woodstock of Humor”
Between writing about hockey and adventures in the NFL, I’ve realized I need a little reinvention of my own—hence, the upcoming conference I’m headed to: The Erma Bombeck Writer’s Workshop.
I’m so looking forward to this, mostly because I enjoy finding the funny in everyday life and I haven’t been finding anything funny for at least six months. I’ve been stressed at my day job and those pesky world events aren’t helping, either.
I also don’t spend enough time in real life with other writers and I can’t wait to commiserate (perhaps craft voodoo dolls of editors who reject us?) and celebrate with them (go wild with grammar? Buy each other’s books? We’re wild! We’re crazy! We’re writers!)
Here’s hoping I return refreshed, re-funnied, and ready to write some more.
Thanks, as always, for being here!

Aw, my heart did a little flip – you’re headed to Erma. And I’m not. It’s the first one I’ll miss since 2016. I am sorry I won’t be there to meet you in person. You are in for a treat. It is a wonderful experience. Soak it all up, Katy. Eat the cake, sit at a different table every meal and stay up for the Photo Booth shoots.
We’d have so much to chat about. I’m branching out from the blog, too …
Kelly I thought about you every time I think about Erma. I’m so sorry to miss you! Thank you for your kind words and advice. I’m planning to soak it all up!
I look forward to hearing all about it when you get back.
