Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

September 22, 2015 By Katy 8 Comments

It’s that time of year again, when summer turns to fall. As I look back with fondness on this past summer, I can say with confidence that I did it all.

Camping? In a comfortable cabin of course.

Biking? With the kids to Dairy Queen no less!

Swimming? Lots and lots of swimming.

Family vacation? To Traverse City, Michigan. It was great!

So when ProFlowers offered me a summertime bouquet along with the inspiration to reminisce about something I wished I did this summer, but didn’t, I drew a blank.

Until now.

You see, if there is one thing I wished I did this summer, but didn’t, it would be this:

I wish I had driven to work more often.

That doesn’t make sense! you think.

Let me explain.

I work for a large University with thousands of students. They get in my way every September to May, driving their parents’ cars and taking selfies, as well as every last parking spot. When it’s the academic year, my commute to work looks like this:Ugh - my winter commute! This is why I'll miss summerIn the summer, though, the students go back to where they came from. Suddenly, my commute looks like this:My summer commute, what I'll miss about summer! Thus, if there was one thing I should have done this summer, but didn’t, it would be drive to work footloose and fancy free more often.

Driving to work in the summer, footloose and fancy free!

Before I get too worked up about the harsh reality of my commute, though, I’m going to take time to stop and smell and the summer flowers.Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Is there anything you wished you had time for, but didn’t, this summer? Can you believe it’s Fall? What are you looking forward to this Autumn?

I was given a bouquet from ProFlowers in exchange for a post about #SavingSummer: something you wish you did this summer, but for whatever reason you just didn’t have time for. If you’re interested in your own #SavingSummer bouquet and enjoying once last whiff of sunshine, check out these handy coupons.

Oh my gosh. A bird just flew into the window as I got ready to type this. TypiKel. Anywho, I love the bouquet that you chose. Gorgeous and oh, so evocative of Fall. Now speaking of that, how can it be Fall already? Man alive Summer zoomed by. We had one of the driest summers on record here on Canada’s “wet” coast and there is concern for those Halloween pumpkins. They’re ready. Orange and plump and ready to be carved. Yikes. I do love Fall. I have to say that it is my favorite season. Crunchy leaves, all things pumpkin and cozy nights.
Off to check on the state of that bird. Fingers crossed he/she is fine …

What’s worse is knowing how good it could be (summer time!). This makes it doubly hard to return to the school year when it’s bad. It should just be bad year-round and then I’d never get a taste for the good life!

I honestly can’t believe how quickly summer passed. Even though I don’t have kids at home, I still feel like the calendar runs from September to May with summers off to enjoy. I guess that old habits die hard, eh? I love the sunflowers! Happiest flower on earth – tied with daisies.

I think I will forever be tied into a September-May calendar, too. Old habits do die hard. Ah, daisies. I should plant some in my yard next year. I used to have some in my former house and they got really big and glorious!

Haha Katy I think we were all dreading the back to school commute! I am so ready for fall, and unfortunately it still feels like the scorching hot summer here in LA. Summer is my least favorite season and fall is my favorite, so you can imagine how quickly I want to get into the fall. Technically it’s fall but sure doesn’t feel like it!

We didn’t get to go camping. Plans got away from us and then when I finally decided to let the kids camp in the yard, I couldn’t find the right tent. They tried sleeping in a one-man tent, but it got too hot. We might try again this Fall, but I’m going to have to search high and low for the bigger tent.

PS I love my college town, but sometimes I love it just a little bit more when the students go home!
