“Mom, take this and put it away” my 5-year-old said.
I looked down and saw a damp nickel pressed into my palm.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“My money,” said Will.
I knew he did not have any money on him that day at Disneyworld. I looked from him to the fountain where we had just visited.
“Did you get this out of the fountain?!?”
Blank look.
“Will, did you get this out of the fountain?”
“Yes,” came the reply.
Oh, my word. “PUT IT BACK!” I demanded. “That’s someone’s wish you took. You can’t steal from a fountain!”
At least he put it back without protest and no, we weren’t arrested for lifting nickels from the Magic Kingdom!
