Of Cake, Cookies and Reese’s

Lately I noticed some tantalizing billboards as I drove my daughter to and from her hockey games.

The billboards advertised new businesses called “The Cake House” and “Cookies.”

YUM!

Who doesn’t like cake or cookies? I know I was very excited to try the cakes and cookies from these new businesses.

Until I drove by The Cake House and read the sign out front.

“The Cake House Cannabis” it proclaimed.

Wu-wut?

Yup, The Cake House turned out to be a new marijuana dispensary, or “dispo” as the cool kids call it.

You can guess what I discovered when I looked into the new “Cookies” store, too.

ALSO a dispensary for legalized marijuana here in the great state of Michigan.

So my efforts to procure delicious baked goods were foiled. But perhaps I should explore my legal options for alternative cakes and cookies, no?

In other news, I also wanted to share how proud I feel for honoring my marital vows, specifically the “for worse” part.

What is this worst part? you ask.

The fact that my husband of nearly three decades continues to call Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups “Reecies” instead of “Reese’s”.

I try to explain to him that 100% of Reese’s commercials say “Reese’s”.

You know, as if the peanut butter cup was invented by Bob Reese.

Which makes it Bob Reese’s peanut butter cup.

But no.

He continues to mispronounce it “Reecies”.

After 30 years, I’m not sure if he’s doing it on purpose or simply can’t pivot to the correct pronunciation. Oh well, Easter’s almost done and then there’s the annual lull in peanut butter cup advertisements until the Halloween season.

Which gives me just the rest I need before we start another 6+ months of me saying “I love Reese’s” and him replying “I love Reecies, too”.

If only I had some cakes or cookies to fuel me for the next great Reese’s debate!
