With thanks

December 22, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

We were saying grace before our meal the other night. Chad and I asked the kids to say what they were thankful for. Will said, “Nothing.” Chad got irritated and asked him again. “Nothing!” Before WWIII broke out between Will and Chad, I turned to Sydney and asked her what she was thankful for. She [Read More]

The Potty Book

December 18, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

Today is the last school day before a 2-week Christmas/Winter break! I’d like to thank the archaic school system for giving the kids two weeks off when pretty much all of their parents work outside the home these days, and don’t have two weeks off. I digress. I signed up to read a holiday story [Read More]

Is this a bad word?

December 12, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

Yesterday in the car Will said, “Darn it!” Then he asked me, “Is darn it a bad word?” “No.” Then I heard him struggle with another potentially bad word. “Frick, frick, frickin…” To which Sydney, age 3, chimed in “It’s fuc****.” I wanted to crawl under the driver’s seat!

Sydney and the Giant Toot

December 1, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

Last week I had the pleasure of being a single mom while Chad was on a business trip. One of the highlights was taking Will to his Scout Pack meeting and dragging Sydney along. She was pretty good. I brought some toys she could play with and sometimes the first thru fourth grade boys did [Read More]

Celebrity “Bad” Mom of the Month

November 24, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

I would like to thank actress Rachel Weisz for her candor about mommyhood in the December 2009 issue of Redbook magazine. Rachel is mom to a 3-year-old son. She comments: I think there is sometimes too much pressure on us to be perfect moms, to be empathetic and loving all the time. I feel like [Read More]

Good Moms buy toys, not Christmas cards

November 11, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

Update: I ordered these cards on Wednesday and got them Saturday. They look great! This was a lot faster than I expected, too. Now if some magical cabana boy would show up at my house and address all the envelopes. He could clean my house while he was at it, too! Both of my blog [Read More]

Pee pee in the potty

November 5, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

You’ve heard the TV called the Boob Tube. I’m thinking of renaming it the Uro-Tube. Here’s why: Sydney has recently potty trained (WOO HOO!). We were eating dinner the other night and she had already been excused. We heard her go into her room and then we heard the scraping sound as she moved her [Read More]

Gratitude with Attitude

October 22, 2009 By Katy 2 Comments

The kids received Halloween cards from Grandma this week. Will ripped his open, gulped when he saw the green paper inserted inside, and anxiously whipped out his monetary gift. “Five bucks?” he exclaimed. “That’s it?” Nice! We had a little talk about gratitude after that outburst. Let’s hope it sinks in!

Picking clothes and picking fights

October 20, 2009 By Katy Leave a Comment

I could hear them arguing in the hall. My husband’s voice boomed, “You are NOT wearing that to church!” My son replied at the top of his lungs, “Yes, I AM!” “No you’re not!” “Yes, I am!” “You do NOT wear a skeleton to church. That’s final!” Now I finally understood. My son’s shirt, while [Read More]

A tale of two lunches

October 13, 2009 By Katy 1 Comment

As we have settled into Will’s school year, I keep thinking this lunch thing should get easier. But it doesn’t. Some days he braves the cafeteria, usually when the menu boasts a dessert. Most days he takes a lunch. He also needs a non-allergenic snack for later in the afternoon. So the night before a [Read More]
