The Best Royal Baby Name

July 25, 2013 By Katy 12 Comments

ID-10092816I lived in Canada for three years while I attended graduate school. So that pretty much makes me an expert in all things British. After all, Canada is a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations and their money has the queen’s likeness on it.

Oh, and did I tell you that I have Scottish ancestry?

So I feel totally qualified to name the Royal Baby!

We all know by now that the Royal Baby has been named George Alexander Louis. That’s lovely and traditional.

But I know you are curious what I would have named the baby. Below are my best Royal Baby Name suggestions and their totally legitimate British inspirations.

First, the girl names (which we all know by now are totally useless.)

Hermione from Harry Potter

Mary, Edith, Sybill, Violet, and Lavinia from Downton Abbey

Mel, Mel, Emma, Geri and Victoria from the Spice Girls

And now the best Royal Baby boy names:

Harry, Ron, or Draco from Harry Potter

Matthew or Tom from Downton Abbey

Niall, Harry, Liam, Zayn, or Louis from One Direction

Simon from The X Factor

Nigel from So You Think You Can Dance

John, Paul, George or Ringo from The Beatles

There you have it. The best royal baby names as suggested by moi. And I could argue that Kate and Wills agreed with me since the Royal Baby has both George from The Beatles and Louis from One Direction in his name!

Which, if any, of my suggestions do you like? If you had a son today, what name would you give him?

Hmmm…Do you promise I won’t jinx myself by thinking of baby names?!?! I’ve always liked the name Samuel, but it didn’t seem to fit with either of my boys, so I never used it. I don’t know what goes with it either. Do I have to “think Royal” and come up with three names? Gosh, you’ve made my morning complicated!! 🙂

Would’t that be something, they come out and announce the name as George and then say “oh not because of my great-grandfather or anything, it’s because we are both mad Seinfeld fans”.

I have always said if I had a boy his name would be Christopher Michael. My husband loves the name and has always wanted it…unfortunately we have all girls!

My daughter had 2 Christophers in her kindergarten class. The classics never go out of style!

I thought is was hilarious that people were making the connection between George Alexander Louis and Seinfeld. George Costanza was played by Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus played Elaine.

I saw that bit, too. And my Swedish reader up above, Lou Lou, also made the Seinfeld connection. I’ll laugh it Prince George’s nickname becomes Jerry or Kramer!

There were others I could have suggested: Dobby, Dumbledorf, you get the drift!

I already have boys and I named them Kyle and Mikael. Not very traditional but I love the baby’s names. A whole lot better than what most celebrities would have come up with. 🙂

Oh Hermione would have been awesome! Personally, my fave boy name now is Zane. I just think it’s cool!
