My son graduated from high school last weekend. What a whirlwind leading up to the big day! Although COVID modified some end-of-the-year events, there were still plenty of activities to close out my son’s senior year.
Activities like:
- Prom (yay!)
- AP exams (boo!)
- Cap and gown pick up
- Senior skip day (yup, he skipped)
- Senior breakfast on the last day of school (nope, he slept in instead)
- Senior scholarship award night (my son won the local culinary student scholarship!)
- and, finally, the graduation ceremony.
I’m probably forgetting some events, too.
As is my style, I took to Twitter to document some of the lighter moments around graduation:
Most of these senior/graduation events were fun and memorable.
Most.
On graduation Sunday, it was 9,000 degrees outside in the blazing Michigan sun. I’m not even joking. Okay, maybe I am joking. BUT IT WAS HOT.
Still, I got a lovely picture with my son, the high school graduate.
And, since I’m more sarcastic than sentimental, I didn’t even cry that day. I felt happy about his journey and his accomplishments and hopeful for his future. Maybe I’m not such an Experienced Bad Mom after all.
What’s next for him? He’ll be attending Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Congratulations to all the high school graduates in the Class of 2021! And to all the parents and grown ups who were behind these kids and supporting them, driving them, and loving them all the way.

Congratulations! I am so glad he was able to have a mostly normal graduation experience. Now not other next adventure 🙂

Thanks, Jen! It was thankfully normal. All that this mama could ask for.
