What 25 Years of Marriage Looks Like

September 8, 2019 By Katy 5 Comments

My husband and I celebrated 25 years of marriage this summer.

Yes, I was a child bride. Ha ha!

I attribute the quarter century mark to a lot of things: faith, luck, some work, some compromise, lots of fun, and an eye-on-the-prize mentality. Which means don’t start looking around for something else, if you know what I mean.

Anyhoo, here’s what 25 years of marriage looks like now that I’m here.

Wait. Let me first put on my reading glasses or I won’t be able to see.

25 Years of Marriage

It looks like two kids.

It looks like a mortgage.

It looks like a matching pair of softer bellies.

It looks like two bodies sitting next to each other, scrolling through smartphones or watching TV.

Twenty-five years of marriage looks more wrinkled. How did those lines appear here, there, everywhere? I still FEEL young!

It looks like recipes we ripped out of the TV Guide back when we were first married. We still cook those recipes today.

Of course, TV Guide in print is ancient history.

There’s laughing about the old days, when we didn’t have email addresses.

There’s also laughing about the new days, when we could care less about Snapchat, but also need our teen to help us figure out what’s wrong with the WiFi.

It looks like companionable silence.

Or it sounds like the same argument about coffee cups we’ve had since 1994.

I could go on, but no one really cares but us, except us. And there is some beauty to that truth, really, in this selfie-obsessed, social media prolific world.

Twenty five years of marriage looks great, if I’m honest. And here’s to many, many more!

Huge congrats on getting to the quarter century mark! Gotta ask: what’s with the coffee cup argument?

      Thank you Kelly!

The coffee cup argument is that he takes a to-go cup of coffee to work everyday, then brings it home and leaves the dirty to-go cup by the sink. He believes that whoever is cleaning dishes should clean the cup by the sink. I believe that it’s his cup, he took it, he got it dirty, he brought it home and he should clean it.

We’ve both stuck to our sides of this argument since 1994. 🙂
