When My Six-Year-Old Gets Married

October 9, 2013 By Katy 15 Comments

My six-year-old and I had a conversation about weddings the other day and I learned something important.

I shared what I learned on Facebook and people seemed to get a kick out of it. Thus, I think it’s only right that I share our conversation on the blog, too.

It went like this:

6yo: Is there a law against getting married in your yard?

Me: No.

6yo: Then that’s where I want to get married.

Me: Okay.

6yo: You can just put on a fancy dress and step outside.

Me: Sounds good.

6yo: And you can be my flower girl. My elderly flower girl.

After my daughter gets married she plans on living in a tree house in our yard. I don’t think she’s planned the actual wedding yet, just the house.

My daughter wants to live in my basement with her husband or else next door. I haven’t told the neighbors yet that they should expect to move!

Nice! Out of the mouths of babes! My daughter wants to get married in her grandparent’s yard. Two of my husband’s siblings had their reception there and it was gorgeous. But then she plans to move to the West Coast, far far away. šŸ™‚ I think she’ll miss us.

I thought I’d commented on this yesterday. It must be this age that kids are so very funny! I almost wish I had a recorder on me 24/7 just to catch all the funny things Peanut says. You’ll make the cutest elderly flower girl ever!

That’s so sweet. My husband and I had our wedding reception in our backyard. His two older sisters had married in their parents’ backyard.

I was so sad the day my son said he wasn’t going to marry me anymore because he had found out that you’re not allowed to marry a relative.

Loved this! And feeling good that I’m not the only one with a kiddo who clearly plans ahead. Mine was scoping out engagement rings a few months ago!
