Top 3 Oscar Moments on Twitter

March 3, 2014 By Katy 10 Comments

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I confess that I was able to watch almost all of it, except for the middle part where I sort of fell asleep. Oh, and “watch” is a relative term. Mostly I had it on in the background while I checked my Twitter feed like a crazed lunatic. [Read More]

Who Should Co-host Dancing with the Stars

February 25, 2014 By Katy 6 Comments

This week the entertainment world is abuzz with the news that Brooke Burke-Charvet has been replaced by Erin Andrews as co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. I’m not a rabid fan of the show, but I do tune in every now and then. I LOVE the host, Tom Bergeron, because he cracks me up [Read More]

Former Child Star Caillou Arrested for Shoplifting

September 9, 2013 By Katy 37 Comments

Former Child Star, Caillou, Arrested! Read all about it.

It’s been two weeks since Miley Cyrus twerked her way onto the “Former Child Stars Gone Bad” list. Which got me thinking. What if our children’s most beloved (or most polarizing) star, Caillou, ever fell from grace? I think the press release would go a little something like this: Former child star Caillou was arrested [Read More]

Forget Dora, My Daughter Likes Swiper

August 13, 2013 By Katy 15 Comments

Today I’m pleased to welcome a guest post from Kerry Rivera, who blogs at Breadwinning Mama. Welcome, Kerry!   I can live with Dora, but Swiper is doing some damage in our house. For those of you not familiar with the infamous Dora the Explorer show designed for our precocious preschoolers, Dora typically sets out [Read More]

You Want One Word to Describe Me?

April 30, 2013 By Katy 6 Comments

I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite TV shows is The Middle. This ABC gem focuses on the Heck family living in Orson, Indiana. The mom, Frankie, has some great lines every week as she lovingly and realistically raises her three kids. The following is an excerpt from her job interview for a dental [Read More]

Why You Should Watch Finding Bigfoot

March 26, 2013 By Katy 4 Comments

In typical Experienced-Bad-Mom-style, I’m a day late and a dollar short. That’s because this post is about a great family program you may be missing, Finding Bigfoot, and yes, the season finale airs this Sunday at 10pm. So you’ve missed the whole season. (Never fear, though, because Finding Bigfoot re-runs will air into perpetuity!) What is Finding [Read More]

When Kids Name Pets

March 15, 2013 By Katy 8 Comments

My boss has a cat named Papagena. I always thought that was a bit unusual. Plus, I always mixed it up with Patagonia, the clothing company. As my boss and I were chatting the other day, I learned two things about Papagena. First, the name is from a character in the opera The Magic Flute. [Read More]

Things I Wonder About on Kids’ TV Shows

July 20, 2012 By Katy 12 Comments

Let’s get this right out there: I let my children watch TV. There. And when they’ve been watching TV, most of the time I’ve been watching along with them. Which brings to mind several pressing questions about children’s TV shows. Here, in no particular order, are the things I wonder about on kids’  TV shows: [Read More]

Dancing with the Stars

March 22, 2012 By Katy 6 Comments

I enjoy watching ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” with Sydney, age 5. Call me girly, but my daughter and I bond over the sequins and frilly dresses. On Monday’s show, several of the women were wearing skimpy costumes, including  dancer Peta Murgatroyd. I decided to use the skimpy costume as a teaching moment. “That dress [Read More]

There’s Smart…Not Really

November 12, 2010 By Katy Leave a Comment

You know you’ve let your preschooler watch too much TV (in this case, Nickelodeon) when she’s quoting the recent KMart commercial: “There’s smart, and then there’s KMart smart!” Bad Mom solution: Turn the channel to PBS or Disney where they don’t have commercials!!
