Things I Want to Complain About Part III

October 24, 2016 By Katy 28 Comments

I have reached yet another one of my cranky crescendos.

Yup, it’s time for me to complain about stuff and get it off my chest.

(If you’re curious about my previous forays into complaining, check out Part I and Part II.)

Without further ado, here is Part III in the scintillating blog series I like to call, “Things I Want to Complain About.”

Got complaints? I know I do! Here's a funny list of Things I Want to Complain About, Part III.

    1. People who walk or jog in the road vs. people who walk or jog on the sidewalk that’s 5 feet away. What’s up with this? I also see people who walk their dogs in the road, rather than on the sidewalk, too.
    2. The never-ending road construction in my town. This spring, a massive overhaul of our main thoroughfare was started. This has meant delays, detours, and major inconvenience. For instance, it takes me 45 minutes to get to work instead of 30 minutes. It was supposed to wrap up after a mere six months on October 15. However, they are a month behind schedule (maybe stop chatting, boys?) and I’m tired and out of patience. Grrr.Things I Want to Complain About, like construction. Grrr.
    3. Free shipping that isn’t free. Most catalogs I get boast free shipping. But I have news for you (Yes, I’m talking to you Eddie Bauer): if I have to buy $99 of overpriced stuff to get free shipping, then it’s not free. Free shipping should be free if you buy anything, even socks.
    4. Lite rock stations that play non-stop Prince, Michael Jackson or Elton John. I’m specifically thinking of the Detroit-area station I listen to at work. There are at least 7,561 more artists with songs that qualify as lite rock. Mix it up, folks.
    5. One-room schoolhouse visits. My daughter is in fourth grade and visited an historic one-room schoolhouse on a field trip. This required a Little House on the Prairie-type costume and “authentic” lunch. No problem! I simply pulled an outfit from my extensive collection of prairie dresses and whipped up a delightful lunch of pork chop and hard boiled egg that I was REQUIRED to wrap in a dishtowel and send to school, just like the old days. GAH. Why is my kid’s school so much work for me?!?!Things I want to complain about, Part III - making an old fashioned lunch for the school field trip.
    6. The never-ending election season. Please make it stop.
    7. This incident. Ahem.

There you have it, the third installment of Things I Want to Complain About.

I’d love to hear what’s got your goat these days. Please complain, er, share below!

I’m sooo ready for the election to be over too. They’re our monkeys and it’s the country’s circus. I’m with you on the free shipping problem. Don’t call it free if it’s really not.

Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way about the election…and free shipping that isn’t!

Oh Katy – I laughed out loud at this rant…specifically the One Room School House school trip…hilarious…and so true. My current saga is Halloween at the elementary school and yes to costumes but only Book Character costumes…oh brother…Mom, I think there’s a book about a ninja, right?? I need to be a ninja. Oh…now that I’m on this path…Why do schools have Pajama Day??? Even in High School. Maybe because I’m an “old” mom, I don’t get it. Today my High School Freshman’s school has pajama day…really???!!! Ugh. On a good note…she didn’t even mention it to me and it didn’t come up until I dropped her off and saw some girls prancing around in red polka dot snuggies complete with feet…Sorry…not a good look. 🙂

Living in a college town, you can tell when the spring semester is over: they tear up the streets and start re-paving everything! They’ve finished most of it by now. The only place they’re still working is not somewhere I travel frequently, but I know it’s bothering other people!

It needs to stop soon. I’m soooo out of patience – and inconvenienced! It’s so major and every week there are different detours and road closures. I have no groove, only confusion.

#1: At least you HAVE sidewalks! In New England it’s like a special treat not to have to walk in the 1.5 foot wide shoulder and pray you don’t get mowed down by an SUV on your leisurely walk.

Maybe that’s why our family goes on hikes, instead…

Okay, I’m thankful for sidewalks now! I’m also slightly amused at the thought of you and your family walking by the side of the road. Stay safe!

Oy, with the elections! Even the local ones, I get at least 3 fliers in the mail every day. I actually don’t mind a minimum purchase for free shipping but let’s knock it down to $25 (I’m looking at you, Amazon). #happynow

I could handle free shipping at $25, too. But $99 just makes me think it’s not free so don’t advertise it as such, especially with a teeny tiny asterisk and fine print. 🙂

I know. Grr! Then I sit there and think should I buy something else to get the free shipping, and then I get angry and think, “No, you won’t suck me in!” Finally I realize how ridiculous I am with my online shopping, LOL.

ALL of this is what is happening here in your old hometown of Vancouver. With the exception of the election – however the nonstop CNN coverage has us all feeling that we are voting as well. AND with the exception of your six pack story. I have to admit to being a bit puzzled over that one for half a second. It was like: Huh? We’re still in the dark ages here and you can’t buy booze except at the liquor stores where they grill anyone under 35.

Since I have lived in different states, I realize that each state controls its booze differently here. I think in Michigan you can get beer and wine at all types of stores–even Target–but the hard stuff is at the liquor stores only. So I was in the grocery store with Will getting juice boxes and water bottles in one aisle and the beer was in the next aisle over.

We used to have a “blue law” too which meant you couldn’t buy beer on a Sunday morning. God only wants you sloshed after church, apparently.

Hahaha your FB post, that would totally happen to me. That IS annoying about the construction, it’s always later than you want it to be finished. Basically I can totally relate to all of these, although haven’t had to make food like the good old days psh! We already have enough to deal with no?! Thanks for sharing with #GlobalBlogging!

What a week! Wowzers. All these complaints are valid. I mean, how can I still not find an acceptable radio station and if I have to find another back road to make a 5 minute drive, I might just cry! At least I know my little town like the back of my hand now. At least ONE positive. Elections – giggles.. Yup not my circus, I feel for you! At least it will be over at Christmas ( I hope) and we can all enjoy some good old fashioned Egg Nog (homemade) in a crystal glass. 🙂 Loved this! Thanks for linking up Katy! #GlobalBlogging

Oh goodness that lunch note and field trip! I’m all for special experiences, but if they want kids to have an authentic-style lunch, offer it for purchase. There’s a reason we don’t send that stuff these days!

You’re right they SHOULD offer the special lunch for purchase. Then it could be authenticated by the school–and not me. Sigh!
